Practice:
Tim and Mark have spent 12 months redesigning the broader curriculum at Wilmslow High School, in order to ensure that ALL students have access to a curriculum which is both academic and enables them to develop broader skills. They have devised a curriculum with 8 strands which encompass: expedition, ambitions, community, well-being, respect, Xtra, Leadership, Communication. Some of these strands will be delivered by all teachers as part of a taught curriculum. Others will be delivered by specific curriculum teams or as part of an extra-curricular programme.
 
Impact:
The impact of the curriculum redesign is expected to be significant. It requires a rethinking of the roles of teachers to encompass more than just subject teaching. As part of the process they have restructured their team considerably to prepare for the changes. Major calendar changes have been introduced to ensure that students are working on explicit strands of the Whole Curriculum in clearly allocated time slots, whether that be during the normal school day or as part of out of collapsed timetable days and weeks.
