We are delighted that the Whole Education Award for A Whole Education Curriculum in 2016 was sponsored by OCR.

The Spinney Primary School
 
Practice:
Yolaine and Jess have introduced Project Based Learning as a whole school home learning activity. Spinney children are provided with a grid with suggestions for projects that their families are invited to choose from as home-learning opportunities which enable the children to practice a wide range of skills including research, making, baking, painting, creating and inventing.
 

Impact:
Project learning at the Spinney Primary School has been extremely beneficial for the children and their families who are often working together inter-generationally. The diversity of skills the children have learnt have also been remarkable in enforcing the authenticity of experiences. For example, there have been opportunities to develop carpentry skills, and to make mosaics using real pieces of broken tile. The approach has enabled children to extend their learning beyond the school gates and into the community and home. Project Learning has really helped the school to demonstrate their commitment to their mission statement “Teaching and Learning Together”.
