Case Study - Passmores Academy, 2016 Award Nomination

Dawn Moore, Numeracy Pedagogy Leader
Passmores Academy

Practice:
This year Dawn has led the Whole School Numeracy Project at Passmores Academy with flair and determination. The senior leadership team made the conscious decision to put a non-mathematician into the role, in the belief that it would be easier for a non-specialist to motivate other non-specialists, which has been a clear strength of the project.. Dawn has encouraged positive attitudes to maths and numeracy among staff. They have gone above and beyond what the project asked of them, to develop resources that support staff to encourage mathematical fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills.

Impact:
The team’s 'can-do' attitude shines through and reflects the energy and enthusiasm Dawn has put into transforming the way Passmores Academy addresses numeracy. Dawn has encouraged staff to spend time with the numeracy expert, which has been invaluable in developing their understanding of how numeracy can be supported across the curriculum. This prioritisation and commitment and Dawn’s strong belief that numeracy is not something taught by the maths department alone, has led to an increase in mathematical ability as a result.
