Swavesey MFL department: Sabine Pichout and Katherine Monument, Teacher of MFL
Swavesey Village College

Practice:
Swavesey’s MFL department has been supporting other schools to share their success at various key stages. Katherine Monument, in her KS2 transitional role, has enthused students allowing them to understand the value of languages globally and the importance of the role of languages in everyday life. At KS3 level, Sabine Pichout has used her experience in the Language Futures model to spread this across her school's Trust, CMAT, and allow students to experience independence in their language learning.

Impact
Students show an increasingly proficient language learning. The specialist provision combined with the frequent contact with older students through ‘Language Leaders’ teaching and the visit of German Exchange students has further consolidated this. Individualised feedback on each learner facilitates reflective learning and a smooth transition to the academic lessons. The school spent a great first year with students really enthusiastic about the course. A colleague had to say about the support she received: "Having experienced the Languages Futures model at Swavesey Village College through Katherine and Sabine, I launched LF at Sawtry Village College last year. It has been a great first year with students really enthusiastic about the course. I have been able to take ideas from my time with Sabine and Katherine and we have also been able to bounce ideas around CMAT Trust which proves invaluable."
