Stanley Park High School

Pratice:
For the past 3 years Katie has led a team of 17 teachers to enhance Project Based Learning within the school’s EFC curriculum. The projects with students have been showcased in a variety of publications including The Guardian and TES. She has been a champion at events held by Whole Education and the Innovations Unit - leading sessions on REAL learning and project planning. She has written articles for TES about her work and regularly delivers training to visiting teachers about PBL and the EFC at Stanley Park High.

Impact:
Testimonials from parents clearly show that Katie’s teaching of PBL has improved students’ confidence and standards of literacy and communication. Students gave the feedback that the projects have stretched, engaged and motivated them to learn. The effectiveness of the projects has been featured in a variety of publications, including an article in the TES (2013) and the REAL Projects website. The work is being cascaded to local Primary Schools whose teachers and students have come to Stanley Park High to participate in PBL workshops. The Ofsted Report (October 2015) stated that the PBL approach was a “distinctive and successful feature of (the school’s) curriculum”.
