Case Study - The Elizabeth Woodville School | Award Nomination 2016

Emma Beckley, Geography APL
Elizabeth Woodville School

Practice:
Emma worked with her team to deliver an exciting project where students produced documentary films about Cyclone Pam. As part of the project each group considered the impact of the cyclone from different viewpoints: villagers in Vanuatu, people in the UK watching events on the news and aid workers. The films were then premiered in Cineworld Cinema where all of their families were invited to watch. The winning documentary even received an Oscar as an award.

Impact:
The mutual effort to produce the documentary has led to an increase in collaboration and team work across the year group, which also had a positive impact on empathy skills. Both the students and staff learnt the power of mobile phone technology to create and edit a documentary. The opportunity to show their work to their parents at the cinema created a real buzz in the school and this experience will definitely be remembered for a long time.
