Language Futures

Language Futures is a shift in pedagogy and resources, enabling MFL teachers to teach multiple languages simultaneously, in response to student demand.

The Challenge

Globalisation is leading to more employers calling for young people to speak foreign languages, but even with the introduction of E-Bacc, MFL remains an under-nourished subject, with students turned off by the languages on offer and a shortage of language graduates adding to the problem.

The Project

Combining digital resources and first-language mentors with project-based learning, peer critique and their own language expertise, Language Futures teachers provide highly personalised learning, supporting students to learn their chosen language independently.

This project supports schools who are already using or wishing to adopt Language Futures to replace or supplement traditional MFL teaching at KS3 through:
+ Specialist consultant support with recruiting volunteer mentors, and choosing how to implement this flexible approach
+ Funded meetings to share resources and approaches with likeminded MFL colleagues
+ Start-up cash to support with implementation and cover in first two years
+ Resource creation for your new classes
