Upstream by design: building a trust system that works for every learner — Eleanor Bernardes

Across the country, some trusts are already proving that upstream, preventative approaches can reduce exclusions, improve attendance, and create more stable pathways for vulnerable learners. This session explores what those MATs are doing differently — and how stronger system coordination between schools, AP, specialist services, and families is key to making these approaches work. Participants will take away practical, trust-level strategies for building an upstream system that works coherently and consistently for every learner.

Eleanor Bernardes is a researcher and consultant specialising in MAT leadership, growth and governance. Strategic Lead for the APSEND MAT CEO network, her research explores values-based leadership and executive succession in MATs.
