Attendance Leader Meeting (Autumn 2025)

Join colleagues from across our network for the next meeting of our Attendance Leadership Specialised Network, where we will explore practical approaches that help schools strengthen engagement and support every learner to attend, participate and thrive.

This session will draw on themes from the first two issues of Colin Cattanach’s new monthly attendance magazine, which spotlight emerging thinking and practice from across the sector.

Building on last term’s discussion on developing a practice framework to sit alongside your school systems, we will focus on two key topics:

Topic One: Relational versus Compliance Led Systems
From Issue 1, page 16
How do school leaders design cultures and processes that move beyond compliance to foster genuine belonging?

Topic Two: Social and Emotional Barriers
From Issue 2, page 16
Exploring anxiety, school avoidance and mental health related barriers and what practical responses look like in different phases.

We are keen for network members to share their experience. If you have trialled or refined approaches linked to either topic, we would love to hear from you. Even a short 2–5 minute input can spark valuable conversations. If you would like to contribute, please email shane@wholeeducation.org.

The session will open with everyone together before moving into phase-specific breakout groups for deeper discussion.
