Come and Discuss...Hope, Wellbeing and Curriculum for Thriving — James Royal, Richard Uffendell and Steve Barnes

This Come and Discuss session is a chance to hear from network members on their approach to hope, wellbeing and curriculum for thriving.

You will have the opportunity to hear from:

  • Inclusive curriculum in the classroom and beyond — Richard Uffendell
Designing a nuanced curriculum beyond the classroom walls - integrating adaptive teaching, ASDAN, allotments, and bike building - ensures we do the right thing for every child. Discover how balancing flexible pathways with academic rigour creates an environment where no student is left behind.

  • Why we can be sure of hope: How do leaders create schools where hope is deliberately and intentionally built so that vulnerable young people can thrive? — Steve Barnes

Steve Barnes is the head teacher at the Pilgrim School in Lincolnshire. His team has created a whole school approach to building hope in young people through their experiences in the classroom, their connection to adults, the words they learn, and the stories they tell.

  • James Royal
With so much emphasis placed on the importance of a leaders’ role in school to ensure ‘well-being’ is delivered to everyone, James asks the question - is this just another job to do or an opportunity to explore the potential of human connection, and the power of the human brain to take control? Using findings from neurological research and a track record of impacting directly on the power of interaction, empathy and humility, he offers insights, strategies and ideas to help leaders grow their teams positively and deeply ‘well’.
