Every student possessing literacy skills to thrive and unlock learning is well understood. But the complex challenge of literacy barriers is difficult for teachers and leaders to address. This session explores how trusts need to sustain strategic leadership of literacy, building knowledge of staff but shifting a legion of teaching behaviours too.
Alex is a nationally recognised literacy specialist, author and former school-leader. He began as an English teacher before leading a research school and is now Head of Content & Engagement at the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), translating research into classroom practice. His books include Closing the Reading Gap, Closing the Vocabulary Gap, Why Learning Fails and The Confident Teacher.
