This session will go into greater depth on practical examples of Special and AP working effectively ‘upstream’ with mainstream colleagues to ensure with learners with more complex needs have their needs met earlier and more effectively. We will look at and share a range of practical examples of success and key learning, including a focus on support around developing various forms of resource provisions in mainstream.
Eleanor Bernardes is a researcher and consultant specialising in MAT leadership, growth and governance. Strategic Lead for the APSEND MAT CEO network, her research explores values-based leadership and executive succession in MATs. Gary Aubin is a SEND specialist, author and former trust-wide Director of SEND. He wrote The Lone SENDCO and The Parent’s Guide to SEND (2025) and supports schools and the EEF in developing evidence-based inclusive practice.
