The magic in the mundane: Botheredness Tools for Whole Education — Hywel Roberts

The curriculum may be the same for everyone, but the route into it rarely is. This practical session explores how teachers can create multiple doorways into ambitious learning through story, relationships and professional imagination. We'll consider how great pedagogy helps more children connect with powerful knowledge—not by making learning easier, but by making it matter. Inclusion isn't about making learning easier. It's about making belonging inevitable. We’ll explore these ideas through a story that emerges from what can be considered to be dull curriculum.

About the speaker

Hywel is an experienced teacher in Special, Primary and Secondary settings, nationally and internationally. He is recognised as an in-demand speaker, writer, humourist, and pedagogy philosopher. Hywel specialises in using Drama approaches and storytelling in classrooms. His books include ‘Oops! Getting Children to Learn Accidentally’, ‘Uncharted Territories’ (written with Dr Debra Kidd) and ‘Botheredness’ He was recently described as ‘..a world leader in enthusiasm’. He also runs a brewery.
