Local Authorities
Local Authorities are critical partners in the Whole Education mission: confident and capable leaders can build schools that provide a rigorous whole education so that everyone thrives in a transforming world.
We recognise the statutory and moral responsibilities Local Authorities hold, impacting both children and adults across the education system. Local Authorities are uniquely positioned to connect with vital services such as health and social care. Building strong networks across localities, supported by robust strategic boards that understand these connections, is essential—and Whole Education works with LAs in a range of ways to support this.
The ultimate aim of our Local Authority work is that children remain educated within their communities, supported by confident and capable leaders who work together around a common language and shared framework. Strong, collaborative, and reflective relationships between leaders are central to this.
Our work with Local Authorities is woven through the National LA Leadership Network, where LAs engage in multiple ways. The greatest impact is achieved through participation in our evidence-based programmes, which are designed to build lasting improvement in localities.
Whole Education’s cornerstone programmes focus on SEND and Early Years. These areas are not only core statutory responsibilities but also where early and effective intervention can make the most difference for children. Getting education and support right from the start ensures better outcomes for all children while reducing long-term costs and risks.
